this is how it was supposed to be Bach's Matthew Passion to unsuspecting Berliner audience in 1829, when Mendelssohn conducted this shortened version (and in rare cases even corrected) after one hundred years of culpable neglect of Bach's masterpiece ... as the manipulation of others' works of art is at least something ethically wrong, we have to give so much to Mendelssohn for having given back light to an icon of Baroque (and beyond) ...
The Master always delicious Diego Fasolis gives us in this double CD a careful and delicate reading...
